ChildHood Heroes : Guy Gardner Part 5
The plan was to do full color but alas, I do not have the time to fully color this image how it should be done. I apologize but here is the final black & white image. After Joe Staton of course. 
ChildHood Heroes : Guy Gardner Part 4 - Re-Drawing Cover of GG #3
So, my favorite issue of this old Guy Gardner series is issue #3 where Guy figures out that he need to take a beating to charge his yellow ring. There is more dialogue on the ridiculous cover than in the entire book, which features a 22 page battle with a hulking red alien. 
My goal was to do my version in tribute to Joe Staton's brilliant/ridiculous cover to the issue. Here's the step by step progress. I apologize for the poor quality of the photo's they were done hastily from my old blackberry.

ChildHood Heroes : Guy Gardner
One of my favorite heroes growing up was Guy Gardner. I started reading his solos adventures after he got the yellow Sinestro ring & beat up Hal Jordan. Even as a kid I realized that his outfit was ridiculous. He wore a leather Fonzi jacket with his ugly yellow G on the front, blue jeans, cowboy boots, & ..........a red headed mushroom cut. Yet, I loved this book. I loved the shit out of it until they turned it into Guy Gardner : Warrior, which was, uh, weird.
Over the next few days I will post more Guy Gardner sketches & I will end with a redrawing of one of my favorite Guy Gardner covers. Stay tuned. please.

Childhood Heroes Part 2 : Rick Steiner
Here's some drawings of my all-time favorite professional wrestler, one half of my all time favorite tag team, Rick Steiner, the Dog-Faced Gremlin.
I loved the Steiner Bros. when I was a kid. Both Rick & Scott had such a great style using their collegiate wrestling basics to pull off great belly-to-belly, German, & traditional suplexes, as well as custom Steiner Bros. moves, Steiner DDT, Steiner Device, Steinerizer, & the Steiner-Line.
I was (still am) disappointed that Scott went his own way & really became obsessed with mass, steroids, & overall image which greatly limited his wrestling ability. Scott went from being one of the most naturally talented wrestlers to a muscle freak who has barely any range of motion & will no doubt, have a really hard time when (if) he hits his 50's and can no longer perform.
Rick had the more marketable look & was so fun to watch, using all kinds of great moves, diving bulldog, double-leg takedowns, scoop-powerslams, headbutts. Rick played it smart & after the NWO era of wrestling dropped out of the spotlight & in 2005 started selling real estate.
The Dog Faced Gremlin will forever be my favorite wrestler.

Childhood Heroes Part 1 : Simon Williams, Wonderman
I am going to start posting sketches of my favorite heroes from when I was a kid/teenager. Not just comic book super heroes but anything like wrestlers, movie stars, cartoons, rockstars, ya know, all that shit.
I'll most likely be doing this about once a month, since I will just sketch a bunch of drawings of the chosen character over a few weeks.
To start it all off, I chose one of my all time favorite super heroes,
Simon Williams, AKA WONDERMAN.
My favorite comic book when I was in grade 5 was the Gerard Jones written, Jeff Johnson drawn, early 90's Wonderman series. Wonderman was a part-time WestCoast Avenger trying to make it as an actor in Hollywood. It was one part Peter Parker, one part Bruce Banner, one part Melrose Place combined to make one of the best comic book runs of the 90's. He was like Peter Parker but not as smart, like Superman but not as important. Many consider Simon Williams to be a 'B' character in the super hero world but he has always been an 'A' to me.
I'm not sure what's happening with him now in the Marvel universe. The last I seen he had some crazy glowing ionic power all around him but I'll take my Simon Williams with a black tank top and a big red 'W' anyday.
