Young Shaney : NightStar
This is NightStar.
When I was in grade 5, I was heavily influenced by the X-Men cartoon & DC's Milestone line of comics. I created my own WildCAT, X-Men, & Blood Syndicate type of superhero team. I don't think they had a name, or at least I can't remember what it was (if I do, I'll let y'all know).
In retrospect, my team wasn't as diverse as I thought it was. It consisted of 3 white guys, 1 black guy, & sometimes a girl character that looked a lot like a guy. I didn't enjoy drawing women so I put her in there because I thought I had to (ya can't have a team of all muscley guys, everyone would think I was gay).
I have recently found a bunch of old drawings from that era and will be posting them under the tag 'Young Shaney' .
So far, here is NightStar. He was the big, black, super strong, silent super hero. I don't think he had any powers except that he was really strong. I don't even know if NightStar the name was already taken (not that it was a great character).

Heron/Iby Jam Pieces #1
I've been doing a lot of drawing sessions with Iby of Digital Kontent, and we did some jam pieces.
Iby started, I finished. well, they're as finished as they're gonna get.
Look for more of these types of piece. I think.

UFC 121 : Lesnar vs Velasquez!!!!
UFC 121 - Lesnar vs. Velasquez
October 23, 2010
Honda Center, Anaheim, California, United States
UFC Heavyweight Championship
Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez - I'm taking Velasquez. Brock's much bigger and probably a little faster but I think, from what I've seen, Cain has the advantage in every technical department. Velasquez's wrestling is definitely underrated against the NCAA credentials of Brock but I think he is the better wrestler, especially for MMA. I could see this going either way but the longer the fight goes I see Brock tiring quickly having to deal with Cain's clinch and I see Cain taking over the fight. If Brock is gonna win this, it'll probably be in the first round. Velasquez by TKO, rd 3.
Jake Shields vs. Martin Kampmann - Kampmann is definitely being overlooked in this fight. Martin has a very underrated ground game. That being said, I see Shields getting top position, maybe even securing mount and smothering Kampmann. I think it'll be a boring Shields decision victory.
Paulo Thiago vs. Diego Sanchez - This should be a great fight. 2 very tough fighters with half decent striking games & well rounded Jiu Jitsu. I see a 3 round war with Thiago getting maybe a split decision. Something like that. Prob a 'Fight of the Night'.
Tito Ortiz vs. Matt Hamill - Hammill's gonna beat up on Tito. Bad match up for Ortiz. Hammill by Decision.
Brendan Schaub vs. Gabriel Gonzaga - Gonzaga all the way!!! 'Napao' by KO. rd. 1!
Court McGee vs. Ryan Jensen - Court by decision.
Patrick Cote vs. Tom Lawlor - Both guys have bad gas tanks. I think the Canadian will give Lawlor his walking papers. Cote by TKO, rd. 3.
Michael Guymon vs. Daniel Roberts - Roberts by TKO
Sam Stout vs. Paul Taylor - Stout by Decision
Gilbert Yvel vs. Jon Madsen - Yvel doesn't look to be in great shape, especially since he doesn't have great cardio to begin with. Madsen should take him down and 'lay and prey' for a 3 round decision.
Dongi Yang vs. Chris Camozzi - Don't really know these guys. I'll take a shot in the dark and go, Yang by submission.

ChildHood Heroes : Guy Gardner Part 5
The plan was to do full color but alas, I do not have the time to fully color this image how it should be done. I apologize but here is the final black & white image. After Joe Staton of course.

ChildHood Heroes : Guy Gardner Part 4 - Re-Drawing Cover of GG #3
So, my favorite issue of this old Guy Gardner series is issue #3 where Guy figures out that he need to take a beating to charge his yellow ring. There is more dialogue on the ridiculous cover than in the entire book, which features a 22 page battle with a hulking red alien. My goal was to do my version in tribute to Joe Staton's brilliant/ridiculous cover to the issue. Here's the step by step progress. I apologize for the poor quality of the photo's they were done hastily from my old blackberry.

ChildHood Heroes : Guy Gardner Part 3
This post contains none of my drawings but instead a bit of a tribute to good ol' Guy in his prime, including his epic rivalry with Lobo, him gettin KTFO by Batman, his debut with the yellow Sinestro ring & a fan costume.

ChildHood Heroes : Guy Gardner
One of my favorite heroes growing up was Guy Gardner. I started reading his solos adventures after he got the yellow Sinestro ring & beat up Hal Jordan. Even as a kid I realized that his outfit was ridiculous. He wore a leather Fonzi jacket with his ugly yellow G on the front, blue jeans, cowboy boots, & ..........a red headed mushroom cut. Yet, I loved this book. I loved the shit out of it until they turned it into Guy Gardner : Warrior, which was, uh, weird.
Over the next few days I will post more Guy Gardner sketches & I will end with a redrawing of one of my favorite Guy Gardner covers. Stay tuned. please.

Lightning
For a long time I've wanted to draw a Raiden-esque character, similar to the ones in the movie 'Big Trouble in Little China'.
Done with ink brush & felt tip pens on 8 1/2 by 11 bleed proof paper.

Batman?
I was reading some collections of one of my favorite comic strips, the Farside by Gary Larson. I decided to draw my version of what I think Gary Larsons version of Batman would look like. I gave him a grappling hook because I would imagine Larson coming up with a good joke about that. I dunno. or maybe Larson has already drawn batman at some point.
