Ultimate Spiderman #1 - CGC
so, i picked up my CGC graded Ultimate Spiderman #1 that came back with a 9.6 grade. i'm told that's not bad. this is my first CGC book. I'm not really sure what to do with it. maybe i'll sell it. maybe i won't. ? . maybe i should just wait until Spiderman 4 comes out and the price will shoot up a bit.
for now, i'll just look at it on my shelf. yay.

Hulk
so i was at the Silver Snail last Saturday and Milo convinced me that it would be in my best interests to pick up 'The HULK 100 Project' , because there would , apparently , be only 1 printing. i did, and i did not regret this. this book is just 100 plus artists doing their version of a HULK cover, and proceeds go to 'the HERO initiative'. this book is GREAT . there are too many great covers in here so I'll quickly mention my favourites.
Agnes Garbowska, Leonard Kirk (#2) , Carlo Pagulayan, Dale Keown ( draws the best Hulk, end of story), Nick Bradshaw, Jae Lee, & my hero, Joe Quesada.reading this inspired me to do one of my own. here is the result.

Wonderman sketch
Zack & Miri & Amy
last week, i went to the theatre ( third time this year) and i watched 'Zack & Miri Make A Porno'.
i didn't love it. i much prefer Seth Rogen acting out his own writing. it may be because i have read all of Kevin Smith's comics, watched all of his movies, attended 2 question & answers at conventions, and listened to over 60 hours of his podcast, and i can't really be shocked the way an average viewer would be watching 'Zack & Miri'. i can tell when Seth Rogen or Craig Robinson is doing a 'Kevin Smith line', and it could just as easily be Jason Lee or Ben Affleck and i don't think it would make a difference. Don't get me wrong, i found a lot of this movie entertaining. i liked seeing Jason Mewes act in a Kevin Smith film, instead of just playing an amped up version of himself. it wasn't a huge stretch but hey, it was acting. i also, really enjoyed the cameos by Justin Long and Brandon Routh. AND i realised that Elizabeth Banks is smoking hot. i give it a PRETTYGOOD, because i would definitely watch it again.
later that night, while drawing, i watched a bit of Chasing Amy. i forwarded through a lot of this. i like to sometimes just watch the good parts. i still love this movie. the opening scene at the comic convention is brilliant, and i think the 5 minutes that Jay & Silent Bob are in it is the best those 2 have ever been written. GREAT.

MOVIES
i watched some movies recently and here's what i thought
REAL GENIUS - This flick, starring a very young Val Kilmer, still holds up. i love it. Kilmer is hilarious. it's cheesy but, you know, the good kind of cheese. definitely worth the $12 i paid at HMV. BRILLIANT
TROPIC THUNDER - this movie started off very good. i would say it had about 5, maybe 6, really funny parts, but it really drags on toward the end. i find that i don't like Ben Stiller in leading roles. i prefer Stiller in cameos or supporting roles. i don't think Robert Downey jr's role was as funny as everyone is talking about, and i think Jack Black didn't really get to do the best Jack Black can do. i am glad that actors Jay Baruchel and Danny McBride are getting more face time. PRETTYGOOD
BURN AFTER READING - this is a perfect movie. the Coen brothers are quickly becoming the best film makers in the biz. if you are a fan of Fargo or the Big Lebowski then there's no reason to not like this film. it's BRILLIANT. Brad Pitt is quickly becoming my favorite actor. he is incredibly hilarious as the hyper, super fit personal trainer. John Malcovich, Tilda Swinton, & George Clooney all give super great performances. Frances MacDormand's sad, surgery obsessed character is the best. i love this movie.

FRED
i saw this dude at Wendy' a few days ago. this is how i remember him. he had a camouflage trucker hat but it said FRED in big bold yellow letters on the front. that's what i remember the most.
and yes, he was looking at me like that while i was busy looking at his hat.
i bet his name wasn't even FRED.

Scott Pilgrim is the BEST!!!
i just re-read Bryan Lee O'Malley's Scott Pilgrim, volumes 1-4 and i fuckin' love it!
there is not many books that get better every time you read them, but this is one of 'em.
each book is better than the last, which makes me very happy that volume 5 should be here in a couple months. this is just a BRILLIANT, BRILLIANT series and the world is a better place because of it.

cgc
i've never gotten a book 'slabbed' before.....until now. i've sent in my crisp, only-read-once, copy of Ultimate Spiderman #1 by Brian Bendis and Mark Bagley, with a Joe Quesada cover. i bought this originally the day it came out, read it once, didn't care for it, and put it in a long box. when i realized it was a hot commodity i put it in a mylar, just in case, and watched the value rise over almost a decade and the release of 3 movies. my latest wizard magazine says it runs about $120 ungraded, so who knows. i am hoping that i get a very high grade and i can sell it for some big $$$$$. it's about time i made some money off comics, instead of the other way around. worst comes to worst i'll hang on to it and hope it goes up in value. but seriously, who gives a shit? i only paid 4.50 for it.

Life Drawing on October 30th 08
so, we tried out the instructor less life drawing class once again. we did a solid 3 hours of drawing, with a few breaks in between.
the first 5 are 5 minute sketches.
the next 2 are 10 minute sketches.
there is one 20 minute and a 30 minute.
the last one everyone decided they wanted an hour pose. i personally felt that, for what i want to do, 1 hour is to long, so i dedicated about 40 of the minutes to make sure i do a real top quality pencil rendering. after that i try something different and used a blue brush pen. it didn't turn out great but it was different.
